This weekend we had the pleasure to shoot Joey and Sarah's wedding. We've known Joey and Sarah for years now and they are like family to us. Sarah's a photographer herself and has been my assistant quite a few times. Joey's just like my little brother, I love him to bits. Jeff & Virginia have had me photograph their family a few times over the past few years. I was delighted when they asked me to photography Jeff's entire family for his parents wedding anniversary. I couldn't wait to meet his parents, his siblings and their spouses. Plus all those kids! First thing in meeting Jeff's Dad, I'm pretty sure I said "you sound just like Jeff" well rather it should be the other way around but he gets that a lot. I couldn't ask for a nicer family to photograph. We laughed, chatted, sang songs to kids, wiped tears, got bug bites, and treated my allergic reaction even. I hope they love their images, they were so fun to work with. Without further adu here is some highlights from their wonderful session.

I still remember the day she was born. I remember stopping on my way home from to meet her. How tiny and perfect she was. My Little Miss Mack. Now, just like that she's three. Three, I can hardly believe how time has flown. I remember taking Pam's maternity photos like it was yesterday. Yet, she's still three. If only my Jake at this age had cooperated with having his photos taken like Ayden did for us. I love this stage because they are just sitting up and not mobile yet. So fun to photography. Just a quick sneak peak for Nicole and Sheldon of their beautiful little girl's photo session. Alayna is fast approaching that first birthday.

She was so fun, rolling and crawling away on me. I think Nicole got a work out helping me get her back into place but I think it was totally worth it.

I love the light in her eyes. The joy in her smile. Plus the warmth in her laughter. It was a great session with much more to come from this little one.

new 52 :: week four :: tutus

This coming weekend I get the pleasure of photographing a sweet little girl just before her first birthday. I started thinking about the session as I usually do, plan, think of the things I want to bring, the type of images Mom & Dad want to capture, what I want to capture.

So I got this idea in my head, something I've done with newborns but never on a toddler, or rather a toddler-to-be. I wanted a tutu, but the session was less than a week away, to late to order anything. I don't have any local vendors. So what's a girl to do? Make her own tutu.

I started with a lot of tulle and an idea. Bill and Jake followed me around our local fabric store, I chatted up the ladies there getting thoughts. Then thanks to my good friend Carrie, better known as Scrapchick, she sent me a how to video that showed me a simple way to create my own tutu. We may have shared a giggle over my pile of tulle.

So I set to work to make this prop for myself, and after maybe after about 30 to 45 minutes I had a beautiful flowing tutu for my session. That's my something new for this week and I am so pleased with how it turned out. I cannot wait to do this session. Watch for a sneak peak this weekend.

new 52 :: week three :: eyeglasses

Eyeglasses. My first pair. EVER. Back in December I thought I had pink eye, or allergies. Within 48 hours drops I normally used weren't working and I waited in the cold in a line up for an hour to get into the clinic on a Sunday morning. Different drops, no driving, also means no work. After about 5 days of Dr's I had to see an optometrist or go the the ER. It was a long and scary two weeks. My eye was so swollen I couldn't open on my own for Dr. Jake to look at it. He treated my eye for a few days and asked when the last time I had my eyes checked were. Um, well, geez. I was 16. So 15 years ago. He's like lets get this resolved and book in for an exam in the new year.

So I booked us all in for exams last week. Ian was up first, his vision was great. He was happy no glasses for him. Although seeing him try them on anyhow, he totally would rock a pair. Then it was my turn. I've been having a hard time with night driving lately but I figured since being off for a year and not driving much at all I would just get used to it. Turns out I'm nearsighted and have a mild astigmatism. Who knew? Not me! I honestly thought when he was doing the flipping of glass back and forth, when it would go clear it was plain glass. I didn't know he was going to tell me I had these things or that I needed glasses.

So there you have it, my new 52 for this past week was glasses. I can't wait to get them!

project life | the first three weeks

Project Life is a wonderful year long project created by Becky Higgins. It's a way to capture your life every day over a year, it's a glimpse into our lives, moments captured. Something I hope to do every year for my family. This also ties into Project 365, a well known wide spread project where you take a photography each day.

Here's my take on these two project as they go hand in hand.

I plan on trying to take a photo every day, it doesn't have to be technically perfect, it doesn't have to be from my good camera, and I don't have to be the one to take it. Life is busy, I get that and if I don't have a photo for that day, then it's going to be ok. Some days I might need to include two photos to really show the story as it progressed.

I plan on keeping the journaling simple, some days I'll have a lot to say, some days I won't. Some days I'm going to get someone else like Bill or Ian to write. You'll see a close up of one of Ian's cards in week two right hand page. I plan to slip in some of my instax mini shots, receipts, movie stubs, parking stubs. Lots and lots of the stuff life is made of. Like Ian's school work from week one.

I plan to use different additional page protectors, like 8.5x11, 6x12, full 12x12. Some customized pages too. I want this to be a living family journal for all of us to use over the year. I want it to stay simple and easy over the course of the year. I am really looking forward to having a place for all the bits of stuff I collect over the year. Instead of in a box waiting for me to scrap.

Here is a look at my album so far, you'll notice in week three it's incomplete because life is busy and I have two crazy boys. So I plan on wrapping it up with week four. I tucked in a note of things I needed to do to complete it as a reminder. Hope you enjoy and follow along as we go.

Just before Christmas I was invited to Virginia and Jeff's home back to photography their newest member of their family, Baby William.

There is nothing more that I like better than photographing newborns. If I could fill my day with photographing and processing newborn sessions I would. It's pure joy. JOY.

Photographing William in comparison to his big sister Emma was a totally different experience. Emma was wide awake, didn't mind to be undressed, she watched me the entire time. Will, liked to be warm, was a lot more laid back, decided he was ok with sleeping through most of our time together.

I couldn't be more happier than I am with his images. I am looking forward to going back again when he's a little older and the weather is a little warmer to capture the four of them together as a family.

new 52 :: week two :: stitching on a paper layout

Here we are with week two over with, and I really wasn't sure at first what would be new this week. I was trying to live in the moment see what came around. Every day passed much like the others, work, dinners, kids, photos, scrapping, dogs, breakfasts, crazy toddler antics.

I did have a goal this week, that was to create a paper layout. Something I don't do very often anymore because I love to digi scrap. Plus it's a lot more messy and with my crazy toddler, did I mention crazy toddler yet, its a mess I don't like to get into with him. Like I said he's crazy and the two don't mix well. Even if I do have the last 5 months of Studio Calico kits sitting in my drawer waiting to be loved and used.

Sometimes I just like cutting and pasting and having it all work out in the end and that's what happened this weekend. I had picked up the current issues of Scrapbooks Etc and loved the quick sketches it has in the back of the book. I love each one of them. Since I'm quite often a template girl anyhow. I rolled with it. In the example layout one of the pieces of paper is stitched. Well, I have a sewing machine now. I've always admired stitched layouts, I use stitching in my digi pages. So I busted out my Singer and went to work. I have to say I'm in love, and I think I need to do more paper layouts just to put this into action because well, it just rocks.

new 52 :: week one :: pinhole photography

I decided to join the new 52 concept and see if I could at least try some new things in 2011. Peppermint and Christine are the ones behind this project. The basic concept is each week to try something new. Simple right? 52 weeks = 52 new things.

Change is good. I am trying to keep an open mind, and trying to embrace change . Even if I don't do something new each week, even if it's something simple I want to give it a shot. I plan to make a mini book with the item at the end of the year. It'll be interesting to see how many things I do end up trying. I think I need to make a list, or maybe I should just go with the flow? We'll see how it plays out. I've already in the last year changed careers and learned to drive standard so should be easy right?

For this week something I have been wanted to try for a very very long time is pinhole photography. I have a couple of links I had saved about making a film one and was all set to do so until I found THIS. OK so we all know Photojojo is pretty awesome and they sell pretty neat things for camera and photog enthusiasts like myself. So, I just happened to get one for Christmas. I tried it for the first time this past week. I love it, I need to work on it more, and apparently clean my sensor but I love it. I love even more that the images are digital. Here are my first few images.

We did our annual trip to Drysdale's Tree Farm with the boys this past weekend. Nana, my cousin and her daughter also joined us. We spent a few ours playing in leaves, inspecting all the pumpkins, running through mazes and open fields. Hot dogs and french fries. Bonfire and train rides. It was such a fun filled afternoon, even if Jake cried almost every time we tried to photograph him. It's a hard life being a photographers child isn't it?

If you are located in close by you should make the drive and check out Drysdale's. We are all looking forward to heading there for our Christmas Trees. Yes. I said trees, plural, we get more than one.

Moore Family Session Sneak Peak | Simcoe County Photographer

I had the pleasure to photograph the Moore Family yesterday for the second time. I've known Julie & Martin for about 10 years now. I remember when they got engaged, watching them exchange their vows on a lovely spring day, to meeting a newborn Emily for the first time, even discussing Liam's name when she was pregnant with him. So much fun and love over the years.

Although we had some slight delays with a truck roll over on they HWY we had a fantastic session. The light was great, the kids gave me smiles, we laughed and chatted and laughed some more. Smushed a few spiders for Liam so he'd sit on the ground. There was hay, and pumpkins and firetrucks. Thanks for asking me to capture you guys again Julz. I hope you love them.

I have pretty much been taking these classes of photography prompts since they began this spring. It's been a bit challenging with I love. Spring for us wasn't even starting when the first class started and we were almost at peak fall colours by the time Picture Fall began! That said, I still have been able to capture some amazing shots of our fall. This year has been one of the best for colour in a long long long time. Reminds me of how beautiful they looked when I was a kid. I am thrilled to see the results of our prompts and I love how everyone has their own take. Here are a few of mine to enjoy. I pass by this everyday twice a day, it's been raining all week so finally we got a day of nice weather yesterday.

This was just sharpened and I ran and tweaked simpley vintange by Coffee Shop Actions.

Ayres Family Reunion 2010

I had the wonderful pleasure of being asked back to shoot the family reunion of this wonderful family. I might add that they are quite a large family too. This year I saw many faces that I met back in 2007 and I met some newer additions! We had a wonderful time time in Springwater Park taking advantage of the gorgeous scenery.

I really can't believe how much some of these kids have changed, some were one years old, one was still in mommy's tummy and now she has a little brother no less! Some were still babies themselves and some have just grown right up in such nice young adults. It's crazy sessions like this every three years that make me love what I do and being able to capture them again and again. I can't wait for the next one, 2014 I think. Cannot wait. I wonder how everyone will have changed.

school daze

Yesterday was a long whirlwind of a day, Ian had a good day at the new school. My day went relatively well all things considering. Somehow, he went into Grade 3. I still remember JK like it was yesterday and before I know it, it will be high school then college. POOF he's all grown up.

It was bittersweet yesterday not being there to see him off to school for the first time ever, not taking the photos myself. However I made up for it with some fun in the back yard when we got home... see shot on Jeep ;) But yesterday I drove my son to school. On a bus. A school bus. My new part time job that lets me be home with my boys and do photography. It's not a job really, it's easy and so far rewarding. I haven't felt this good about a job in a long time. 99.9% of it is hearing Jake squeal when he sees Ian, and when I see that beaming smile as he bounds up the steps of the bus with a Hi Momma.

Today was the first day back to school. It was adventurous that's for sure! Ian went to a new school today, Jake rode the bus with him, and well, that's me the driver.

Hurray for a Grande Caramel Macchiato with extra caramel that brightened my mood today with each sip.

Hurray for a napping baby, especially an extra long baby nap.

Hurray for a short work day.
Hurray for helping hands so I can get a little more done today.
Hurray for scents, like that of my apple cinnamon candle I smell now. Ahhhhh, fall.
Hurray for the everyday.

So I thought I would share some shots captured from our iPhone during our Ottawa vacation. We had a wonderful visit over Canada Day, I've never actually gone to a big city wide celebration like that before for Canada Day and it was quite an experience!

There is something just wonderful about seeing a couple expecting their first child. It's a time full of mystery and wonder, excitement and anticipation, hopes and dreams. Rylan is certainly one loved little boy already. My thoughts are with his parents as they enter these last weeks of this wondrous journey into parenthood for that first time.

I am so super excited to be able to do this for them and as a special surprise for a very deserving Momma/Grandma's birthday. Cannot stand it I am so excited to see them and get to work. As most of you know I scrapbook. Mostly digital now but I scrap to tell stories for my family. Photos + words, sometimes there's a big story sometimes it's a simple statment that says enough. This past year I took a few classes at Big Picture Scrapbooking and have enjoyed them so much. Today I saw "this" on their blog. It's one of my layouts I actually shared with my class, Stacey Julian chose it as her Page a Day for May 26th. So excited she liked it! I also won a free class, one I wanted to take too!

week in the life is good - you should try it

I am very very happy with the results of this project, it's still being put together but this is my title page for our album. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed the process of photographing and documenting our week. For more information on this project check HERE and read up. I'll share the rest of my project when my prints arrive to put in the smaller page protectors and you can see it as a whole album.

Here are some of my reflections from this look at our life this week:

my baby is fast becoming a toddler
Ian is growing in leaps and bounds he's not a little boy anymore
my boys have a great bond even with the age gap
I have many little things in my daily life I am grateful for
I would like to continue to simplify our lives
there is nothing more powerful than photos that tell a story or show a relationship
that I want to do more things that make my boys childhood more special
that there is beauty in everyday life
these last days of my maternity leave are so so special and I wish they could last forever

He's turning one and we had a celebration this week. There was balloons, and cake, cupcakes and presents. Family and friends to surround us as we celebrated his first year with us. I hope there will be many many more wonderful celebrations. We are blessed to have this little man in our family.
