YES, we are moving to our very own new blog!  I just want to take a moment to say YAY for our new photoblog.  Big thanks to Pamela Guppy of MLA Design Studios for her hard work getting another site up for us.  We still have some features coming to the blog down the line but we are up and running and I couldn't be happier.

You can now find us at our own address at www.mckerninphotoblog.com so stop by bookmark us and start following us over there.

Next up - our shinny new main site over at www.mckerninphotography.com so stay tuned for that launch in the next week or so.
With thanks,

enjoying these summer days with my boys - a lot.
making lots of lists of things to do, around the house, this summer, my business.
using Lightroom for the first time, hello learning curve.
feeling two steps behind in everything lately hoping to change that.
spending time doing fun things like blanket forts with the boys.
checking camera gear for Friday.
pleased with the wonderful comments from Siobhan on their family photos. (coming to the blog soon)
finding that we need to move more - swimming today helped.
loving being home with no school - not looking forward to going back in september.
eating breakfast for dinner.
sleeping in late these days plus naps.
writing content for my new photography website.
watching Tom & Jerry episodes with Jake.
spending as little money as possible these days.
planning a camping trip and mini sessions with Momstown.
relieved that the humidity has been relatively normal this week.
racing night for bill he's at the track taking photos of the invitational with Pam.
preparing for doctor's appointments in the morning.
smiling at Ian's new found love of reading.

Thurston Maternity Session | Sneak Peak | Barrie Maternity Photographer

Sarah and Joe were on the blog last year for their lovely fall wedding.  This year they are welcoming their son to the world.  We heading back to Country Spaces Studio to do their maternity photos, the same location the were married at.  We had a gloomy overcast day with the occasional sprinkle of rain but it made for great emotional shots.  Looking forward to heading back up there for their sons newborn session in a few short weeks.

baby j | barrie newborn photography

This is baby J.  He's a very sweet little boy who holds a special place in my heart, and he's now 3.

I often find I'm so focused on my clients photos that I neglect my own. While working on content for my new portfolio update for the website I realized that some of my favourite images, my own images sat backed up in their folder untouched. Granted back when J was born I was recovering from a cesarean section and headed straight into wedding season with back to wedding when he was only 9 weeks old. So it was a busy time.

However, that being said I want to remind parents how important it is to take the time to capture these images.  Sure I was able to go back and process my images and get them ordered for his album now, but if I hadn't taken the time to do this?  Moments like this with him would just be a distant memory.

Now even though I'm a photographer, I take the time now to hire fellow photographers to photograph my family.  It's important that I get in the photo and that our family is captured as a whole.  Not just in parts.  I'm a huge everyday type photographer but I like to have someone take the time to capture our family for me.  If we were ever to have another child, I would even hire someone to do newborn photos because if you've ever shot a newborn session, and had a cesarean section, you would understand putting those two together isn't very productive.  Rather, its painful and frustrating.

I'm truly blessed to be able to take moments and freeze them in time for my clients.  I love what I do and I am so lucky to be able to share what I do with all of you.  So to all my readers take the time out of your schedule and have someone capture your family today, tomorrow.  Seize the day.  These moments in life are so fleeting, life changes far too quickly and often drastically.

Alayna at 2 | Barrie Child Photographer

I have been photographing Alayna every year now since she was born.  This session marks our third year together.  She has been the biggest sweetheart to work yet again and it has been wonderful to watch her grow.  I love seeing her personality blosom as she gets older.  She's quite the funny and amazingly beautiful little girl.  I could not ask for more from her session, it was relaxed and carefree as we wandered through Sunnidale Park.

For information on booking your summer session feel free to contact us.

sneak peak | spear maternity | oshawa maternity photography

We had the pleasure to capture this lovely family for the the 5th time now since their wedding back in 2009.  This time it's in anticipation of mystery baby number 2.  I cannot tell you how much fun we have, it's like going to visit friends with a camera in tow which I always due anyhow.  Here's a little peak of baby belly number 2 let me know if you have any guesses if it's a boy or a girl.
